THIS IS HOW I STARTED!
"Wake up with vision, train with desire, extol to the skies.”
The picture tells it all: This year was one of those that come, but you wish it would end as soon as possible. Each year, I spend February and the beginning of March on the Canary Islands. The climate and conditions are great for quality training. I started the first half of the competition season in the end of April with a competition in Taiwan. The jet lag and the long trip made me tired, but under the auspice of the Challenge organisation, I managed to reach 4th place. This was also my best result for this year. In May, I responded to the invitation of the organiser and participated in the competition in Bilbao, where I reached 6th place. In June, I took part in the elite world championship Challenge, which I qualified for last year. The competition was very strong and in the end, I managed to reach 17th place. My last match of the first part of the season was held for the second time in a row at Lake Balaton in Hungary.
Season 2016 was the most successful season in my young career. Like any before, this one also started with preparations on Gran Canaria. The intensive training went very well and I was feeling ready for the first series of the season in the United States. Unfortunately, I was hit by a car at a roundabout only 2 days prior to my departure. Although luckily I did not suffer any serious injuries, the pain in my leg accompanied me to America and cause many inconveniences during all three races.
At the beginning of the year he made a concrete plan involving all the competitions, especially the ones he wanted to take part in. The main aim of the season was reaching the top 20. At the end of April, he started the first set of competitions and ran 3 half-distance Ironman events but always landed a little under the 20th place. But at the last competition Denis had an awful accident. In Rimini he was cycling for the Slovenian triathlon team.
The experiences in the last two years showed me that I was mature enough to become a professional competitor. In the following year I took part in some competitions, obtained new knowledge and finally followed my vision. In Klagenfurt, at 25, I conquered the magic limit (under 9 hours) and with the time of 8 hours 55 minutes surprised even myself.
At my job as a lifeguard I swam a lot and was constantly thinking about running and cycling as well. The word IRONMAN echoed in my head all the time. And in June 2011 I actually heard it when I crossed the finish line in Klagenfurt (my time was 10 hours and 22 minutes). My performance granted me the title “first Ironman of Zasavje”. In the same year I also became the ambassador of the Tri Star organization.
This year can be called „gap year“. I decided not to play basketball actively anymore. I even took a one year break from it and besides studying economics in Ljubljana, began working as a lifeguard.
After finishing primary school, I continued my studies at Secondary School of Economics in Trbovlje and continued playing basketball. My club teamed up with the Basketball club Litija to compete in the tournament in Torino, Italy. We were the absolute winner and to this achievement I added the 1st place for throwing the most three-point shots.
As a child I was interested in different activities, from sport to music. I often omitted my meals in order to spend hours in the playground near the house. I was an active scout, played the synthesizer and the drums and was a member of the Basketball club Hrastnik. At twelve my love for basketball prevailed and I kept playing it until I started my studies.
